Next Meeting: April 14, 2024

Time: 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Location: Pleasanton Middle School, 5001 Case Avenue, Pleasanton, CA

April 13, 2024: Rhondi Reeves

I come from a very long line of quilters on both sides of my family who were cotton farmers in Arkansas and railroad people in Illinois.  I have quite a collection of quilts, ranging from pre-Civil War, late 1800’s, and 1920’s thru the 1950’s.  I also have a large collection of my own quilts.   My trunk show will show the older quilts and a few of my own.

I have been published in Quilter’s Newsletter, Quilt Magazine, Christmas Traditions from the Heart, by Margaret Peters and books by Mary Coyne Penders.  I’m proud to be on the back cover of Ellie Sienkiewicz’s Design a Baltimore Album Quilt.

I made my first quilt at the age of seven on my great grandmother’s treadle, and I will show it at the AVQ April meeting.  I made quilts all thru high school and have also been a knitter, crocheter, and clothing maker.  I have always been a seamstress.  I have taught quilting for over 40 years and worked at many quilt shops in the Bay Area.

Workshop April 14: Thimblecreek’s House Quilt

Workshop with Rhondi Reeves will be held from 10-4 on Sunday, April 14 at the Bothwell Arts Center in Livermore. Rhondi will be teaching Thimblecreek’s House Quilt. Her sample quilt is Halloween themed, but you can use any theme that you like, perhaps a house for each season or a house for each of four holidays. Rhondi says, “Just have fun with it”, and you know you will with Rhondi as the teacher.

President’s Welcome:

Amador Valley Quilters (AVQ) is a creative group of people who like to explore all aspects of the quilting world. There is something for everyone in this guild, from traditional to art quilting, handwork or machine, and every combination you can imagine. The Gallery link on this page will give you a taste of the quilts and garments we make. Our main charity is Community Quilts thru which we make and donate over 600 quilts per year to local agencies.

The Events calendar lists what’s happening and when. Enjoy one of our Second Saturday General Meetings. We meet either in-person, usually at Pleasanton Middle School on Case Ave in Pleasanton or on ZOOM depending on our speakers. The location of the meeting is listed in our newsletter. Our
meetings start at 1:30 p.m. but either arrive early or log in a little early to get help with ZOOM, talk to a member, ask questions, make friends etc.  We have interesting tables at our in-person meetings where members can take some books out of the Library, buy some recycled quilting or crafting magazines, investigate workshops and ZOOM retreats, and pick up a community quilt or a Block of the Month to work on. Signups for workshops and retreats is available under Programs tab from this page.
Membership information and forms are available in the Forms tab, or via the link on this main page.

Some of the Outreach Programs AVQ sponsors are:
-Budding Beginners at a variety of places to introduce fusible quilting
-“Quilting Then and Now” events at the Alviso Adobe Museum
-Quilts of Valor donations to area veterans
-Community Quilts program
-Donations of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit quilts to local hospitals

-Education program at the Corrections Facility

We welcome quilters of all skill levels, from learning to sew to professional quilters on the national and international level, and of course we love to have those who just like to admire the beauty of fabric and thread. Hope to see you soon!
