Friendship Groups

AVQ is a great place to make new friends and learn new skills and improve our techniques.  Friendship groups are an excellent way to connect with other guild members.   Friendship groups are formed by members of the guild and each group has their own meeting schedule and focus.

For more information about joining a friendship group, please contact the Welcoming Committee.  If a contact name is listed for the friendship group you are interested in joining, please contact that person via the information in your Member Directory.  New friendship groups are always welcome!

Friendship Group Descriptions (**At Capacity):

Bag People – Friendship, sharing and the occasional challenge.  Meets in Fremont.  Contact Judy Singleton.

BYOC (Bring your own chair) – Hostess gives block instructions to be made by members and returned at the next meeting.   A friendly group for sharing, visiting and lunch out.  Contact Mary Ann Jones.

Common Threads** – Friendship and sharing while doing appliqué.  Contact Nancie DeProspero.

Challenge Group – Hostess gives a challenge and members have 2 months to complete it.  All skills welcome – bravery required.  Conact Lani Longshore.

Club Applique** – Friendship Group for hand sewing projects.  Contact Vicky Rousch.

Cut Ups** - A friendship group that works on community quilts.  Contact Pat Baker.

Handmaidens** - Group does handwork together while socializing and sharing.  Contact Vicky Roush.

Happy Endings** – We make Community Quilts from beginning to end. Contact Dianne Escobar.

Itty Bitties – Works on baby quilts.  Contact Margaret Misegades

Livermore’s Flying Geese – Lunch out and visits to local quilt shops.  Contact Melanie Kent.

“Out of the Box”-ers – Emphasis on Art quilting.  Contact Virginia Stadley.

Over the Hill Gang – Castro Valley support group that makes Community Quilts.  Contact Janice Brooks.

Progressive Party – Member starts a quilt that is then worked on by other members in a loosely fashioned round-robin.  All levels are welcome.  Contact Lani Longshore.

Quiltinators – This is a drop-in and sew/quilt group whose purpose is to complete Community Quilts, offer help clinics, and help beginning machine quilters.  Don’t have a project?  We have a few small quilts ready to be quilted so you can give it a try. Contact: Jeanne Brophy

Rambling Roses - Travel Bay Area Destinations to see art, history, quilts and have lunch.  Contact Sue Tellardin.

Scrap Happy Day Traders – Purpose is to share and trade our scraps – which will be designated for each cycle.   Contact Audrey Hutchison

Sew ‘N Sews** – Each member makes a block for the hostess and she makes a quilt for Community Quilts.  Contact Sally Twisselmann.

Thread Heads – A progressive group focusing on creativity and experimentation.  All levels, but requires a sense of adventure.  Contact Dorothy Maddox.

Valley Girls** – Work on handwork of your choice.  Contact Jan Steinhoff.
