History

Who we are:

Amador Valley Quilters (AVQ) is open to all who share an interest in quilting.

The purpose of this Guild is to preserve and continue the traditions, culture, and history of quilting; to sponsor and support quilting activities including charitable works; to promote fellowship among interested persons in all aspects of quilting; to contribute to the knowledge of and to promote the appreciation of fine quilts; to encourage quilt making and collecting; and to contribute to the growth of knowledge of quilting techniques, textiles, patterns, and quilt makers through educational meetings and travel.

On February 14 in 1981, fourteen women interested in quilting got together in a back room at Going to Pieces, a quilt shop in Pleasanton. A quilt guild was born, and the rest is history! Over the years our membership has grown to around 400 women and men, most of whom live in Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore. We also have members who join us from the all the surrounding communities such as Danville, Tracy, Fremont, and Castro Valley.

Members enjoy monthly meetings and special events, such as our Quilt Show and Retreat. Other activities include such things as Block of the Month, Mystery Trips, and Challenge Quilts. We print a monthly newsletter and have an extensive library available to our members.

Each year we make and donate quilts to various local agencies in the Bay Area with our “Community Quilts” project. Around 800 quilts are donated annually to these different groups which include women’s shelters and youth homes.

Our meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasanton Middle School, 5001 Case Ave., Pleasanton, California. Our program usually includes guild business, a speaker, and sharing. Workshops with our guest speaker are also available to our members.

Amador Valley Quilt Guild is a charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3)  of the Internal Revenue Code, tax ID# 68-0218621.
